The slide on the right shows the 13 films covered in my textbook Movies, Marijuana, and Mind and shown in my film & philosophy course, Cinema, Cannabis, and the Maturation of Human Consciousness. In order of their showing, these film are:
The Ninth Configuration, Altered States, Koyaanisqatsi, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Apartment, Waking Life, My Dinner with Andre, Forbidden Planet, Experimenter, Triumph of the Will, Kinsey, and The NeverEnding Story. How many of these films have you seen?
Each of these films in turn serves as the starting point for another film course. For instance, the film Altered States (1980) serves as the starting point for a film course on altered states of consciousness; Forbidden Planet (1956) for a film course called Space Freaks and Science Fiction Geeks; and The NeverEnding Story (1984) for a course on the hero's journey. In considering any/all of these 13 films, can you imagine another film course for which each may serve as a starting point? Please let us know what you think!
