CCBS 101 Basics of Cannabis Consumption: A Little Guidance from a Pharmacist
Instructor: Dean Frankmore
As a pharmacist of 15 years (now retired) and a cannabis consumer for over twenty years, I created this introductory course for anyone interested in the basics of cannabis use, be they consumer or caregiver, novice or expert.
This one-time one-hour course is very interactive and flexible. Input and sharing of participant experience is highly encouraged. Since the days of Reefer Madness we've learned a heck-of-a-lot more about cannabis, including the plant's complex chemical make-up, its great medicinal value and potential, and the discovery of a naturally occurring "endocannabinoid" system in our own body. Now that cannabis is widely available to the public, everyone should learn the basics of this plant, as well as share their experience with it. It's a very safe and beneficial medicine but education is still essential here. We are after all still on steep the learning curve.
Finally, as much as the purpose of this course it to learn about cannabis, it's also a great way to connect and network with others in a similar boat. Participating in this one great way to start building a healthy cannabis-friendly community!
Unlike most medicines, cannabis has as many different ways to use it as there are consumers. This means individuals can custom-tailor their cannabis use according to personal needs and tastes. It also means we have to take some time getting to know the plant, developing a relationship with it, and learning what works best us.
This pharmacist/consumer-taught course gives you a big head start by covering the basics of cannabis consumption; including, conditions it is known to help, tips on wise use, proven benefits, known risks, and potential side-effects. We'll also take a look at drug dependence, how cannabis compares with other drugs claiming similar benefit, how cannabis works in the body, and more. When this one is all said and done, you'll be better prepared for your first (or even your next) trip to the dispensary!
Should you start with a sativa? An indica? Or a hybrid? Are you better off applying cannabis topically, eating it, or inhaling it? Should you vaporize or smoke it?
